November 11 is a historic day for Nigeria as Muhammadu Buhari has finally inaugurated his cabinet, nearly six months after the president was sworn in.
Until today, while Nigerian Senate had confirmed all 36 appointees, no one knew which portfolio each of the ministers would be allotted.
President Buhari won March poll after pledging to eradicate corruption crush the Boko Haram insurgency.
Nigerian leader has been criticized for delaying until September to name his cabinet at a time when the economy has been suffered by the fall in oil prices.
Garba Shehu, presidential spokesperson, recently said that the selection process had taken this long because President Buhari, unlike previous leaders of the nation, has high expectations of his cabinet.
Nigerians for such a slow process of choosing ministers call their president Baba Go Slow.
The incumbent cabinet is smaller than that of immediate past president Goodluck Jonathan, who had 42 ministers. According to the Constitution, Buhari must include a member from each of the country’s 36 states.
However, there seems to be two ministers from Katsina state as the president appoint himself as a Minister of Petroleum.
Consequently, Buhari’s cabinet consists of 24 ministers (himself inclusive) and 12 ministers of states.
