Olaoluwa Adejo has been arrested for allegedly torturing his own wife, Maureen, to death

A Lagos-based banker who allegedly tortured his wife to death has been remanded in the Ikoyi Prison where he will spend the Yuletide season.

A Lagos-based banker, Olaoluwa Adejo, who allegedly tortured his wife, Maureen, to death will spend the Yuletide season in prison as an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrate’s Court ordered that he should be remanded in the Ikoyi Prison till February 28, 2018.

Punch reports that the order was handed down by the Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O.A. Adelaja, who also ordered the police to duplicate the case file and forward to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

The 32-year-old Adejo was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly torturing his wife to death at their residence in the Oworonshoki area of the state.

It was gathered that Adejo reportedly tortured his 28-year-old wife with a belt, machete and then forcing her to drink a local insecticide known as 'Otapiapa' which led to her death.

The couple was said to have been married for five years and had three children together before the devil set in to destroy their home.

It was learned that Adeejo had, on many occasions, threatened to kill the Imo State-born Maureen whenever they had disagreements and on one of such occasions, she had packed her belongings to her mother's house in the same area only to return to her death three days later.

Adejo was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder on Wednesday, November 29 and the charge sheet read:

“That you, Olaoluwa Adejo, on November 12, 2017, at about 6.30 pm, on Peluola Street, Oworonshoki, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did kill one Maureen Adejo, aged 28 years, by beating her to death with fist blows and a belt, and also poisoning her food with a Nopex Sniper insecticide, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 222 and punishable under Section 223 Cap. C17, Vol. 3 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.”

The police prosecutor, Inspector Chinalu Uwadione, then filed an application for his remand in prison as his plea was not taken.

The magistrate, during the proceeding, queried Olaoluwa for the action but he denied the allegation, maintaining that his late wife had a mental problem and he did not know when she took the insecticide.
