Catch Them Young: 5 kid-robbers arrested by OPC members while burgling shop [Video]

These misguided youths surely need rehabilitation

A gang of kid-robbers who invaded a shop late in the night in Ogun State were saved from lynching by men of the OPC after they were caught.

Residents of Idofin-Elega community in Abeokuta, Ogun State, were thrown into shock after members of the Oodua Peoples Congress [OPC], captured five young boys whose ages ranged between nine and 13, as they were trying to burgle a shop in the area at about 12 mid-night.

According to an eyewitness, Razaq Balogun who posted the video on his Facebook wall, the young robbers had planned the theft and waited till late at night when they broke into the shop but luck ran against them as they were arrested in the act by the OPC men.

Speaking in the Yoruba language when they were being interrogated, the kid-robbers insisted that the leader of the gang who gave his name as Musa Sulaimon but fondly called Chairman by his mates, had planned the robbery and invited others to be part of it.

Sulaimon who said his father and mother live in the Ajegunle area of the state, revealed that he does not stay with his parents and that he was taken to live with an Islamic cleric identified as Alfa Ambali, under whom he was learning Arabic Studies.

 

The 13-year-old gang leader, also said that he, alongside another member of the gang he named as Yinusa, fled the Arabic school which is located in Saje area of Abeokuta.

They both stated that the reason they took to robbery was because they were being maltreated by the Alfa.

Also speaking, Yinusa who seemed to be the second-in-command in the gang, said his mother was late but his father resides at Ilugun.

The third boy that spoke gave his name as Tunde, a 13-year-old boy, said his father resides in Lagos while his mother lives in the Shoyoye area of Ogun State.

 

Tunde who said he was schooling in Lagos at Oke Ishagun Government School in Kola Odunsi, narrated that he stays with his grandmother in the Idofin-Elega community and was recruited into the gang by Chairman.

The fourth boy gave his name is Sodiq Oloyede, and claims to live with his paternal grandma in Itokin, Ogun State. He said his mother was late and his father lives in Iyana Pepsi area of in Ogun State, while the fifth boy gave his name as Abiodun Atanda and resides at the Ajitadun area of the state as well.

Oloyede gave his mother's name as Yeye, adding that his father lives in the Sango Ota area of the state.

 

To prevent the mob from lynching them going by their young age, the OPC men had to forcefully take them in a vehicle to the Adatan Police Station in Abeokuta where they were taken into protective custody.
