The NCC's new directive will cause further pain to Nigerians who are already dealing with recession.
If the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has its way we will all be sending text messages instead of calling and using our apps to communicate by December.
The regulatory body NCC "has directed all telecom operators in the country to review their current data prices to align with the new price floor and implement same by the 1st of December 2016, while defaulters risk having sanctions imposed on them."
In letters addressed to all network operators, the NCC stated that it decided to introduce the data price floor as a strategy to stabilise the industry, improve the quality of service and ensure that customers get value for their money.
What this means will create an opportunity for data providers to flex a bit in the market the bottom line is that those of us who buy data from the major telcos will have to pay more for data. These new prices will take a sizeable chunk of our income that has already been diminished by the recession.
Goodbye memes, bants and WhatsApp chats will now be done sparingly. Yes folks, we are going back to 2004 when we gist via texts. At this rate, let's get ready for the worst and buy pure water phones that are good for sending SMS and playing the classic snake game.
The good Federal Government should just go ahead and tax us for going to viewing centres and going out to party because as the way it is they are hellbent on suffering Nigerians.
This present administration keeps wiping the smiles from Nigerians.
