EFCC: APC chieftain arrested by commission over N36m scam

The EFCC has finally arrested an APC chieftain over a three count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretense.

An All Progressives Congress, APC, chieftain, Chief Benjamin Benedict Apugo has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over an N36 million fraud.

The suspect was arrested at his village, Nkata Ibeku, in Abia State on Friday, September 30, on the authority of a warrant issued on July 4, 2016, by a Federal High Court in Umuahia.

Justice D.E. Osiagor who presided over the case issued the warrant as Apugo failed to show up in court following his arraignment on a three count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretense brought against him by the EFCC.

Apugo illegally sold six plots of land belonging to the Nigeria Railway Cooperation located at Umunwulari Nkata Ibeku layout, Planning Scheme Umuahi valued at N36.000,000.

A previous warrant was issued for Apugo's arrest on October 8, 2015, by Justice F.A. Olubanjo after he failed to appear in the court on the same charge.
