Some say its fun, but others claim that popular Twitter account SubDeliveryMan smears people's images online.

A sub is Nigerian Twitter lingo for taken an indirect shot at someone. It's a subtle diss directed at a person without mentioning the person.

The art of the sub has been a thing circa 2011 when a lot of young people started using Twitter. Subs have gone on to cause tweet fights. Subs were really nothing major then. It was seen as just part of Twitter fun and bants. Yeah, it got out of hand sometimes but nothing serious.

You could say subs back then were mostly like squirts from water pistols. Now subs are cyber bullets that can kill the image of a person online. Subs assassinate characters and some say it perpetuates cyber bullying.

The transformation of subs from 'na just play' to 'God go punish you' can be traced to the emergence of a Twitter account called Subdeliveryman. The account came into existence in August 2013. By mid-2015 Subdeliveryman had become a must-follow account for young Nigerians on Twitter.

The premise of Subdeliveryman is simple. Gone are the days of allowing your sub languishing in the archives of your timeline and the person you mean to diss doesn't end up seeing it. To ensure the person sees your sub, slide into Subdeliveryman's  DM, write your sub and mention the person's handle. Also, you have the option of being anonymous. Just tell Subdelivery Man 'keep me anon' and he will deliver your sub to the person you subbed without revealing your identity.

The simplistic concept has caught on and many people have used Subdelivery Man to diss people they don't like and have grievances with. It is also used to take shots people that you don't like.

Beyond sending subs, Subdelivery Man also immortalizes tweet fights by posting screen shots of quarrelling parties. A good example of this is the 'Uduak Is Bae/mifi/cocaine' free for all fight that played out on Twitter in July. Chances are that you missed the online mud slinging but Subdelivery covered the scandal on its timeline with great detail and commentary.

While Subdelivery man has no doubt in the quality of bants it has, on the other hand, promoted cyber bullying, and become a conduit pipe for image smearing. It is so easy to make fake claims against a person simply by sending a DM to Subdelivery Man. These accusations are not verified but quickly tweeted for laughs and entertainment.

It is so easy for a person to be branded a 'fu*k boy' or a 'whore' just because an anonymous person sends a DM to Subdelivery Man saying so. The anonymity of the slander makes it annoying for the accused. Subdelivery is also anonymous despite several attempts to expose the masterminds behind the account.

Some will say its fun and bants but tell that to someone who has been called a slut or labelled a Yahoo boy. The infamous account also promotes cowardice with disgruntled people taking shots behind an anonymous account. Its all fun and games till a person's image is trashed.

The Subdelivery account and its bullying nature don't seem likely to stop. Faceless people are still dropping subs without caring about who is harmed or hurt in the process.

It is fun to read the screenshot of DMs on Subdelivery Man's timeline until you get a mention from the infamous account, then your heart skips.
