NUJ: Body honours 4 governors with Awards for exemplary leadership

NUJ has singled out four state governors, awarding them for their exemplary democratic leadership.

Four state Governors have been honoured with awards from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nasarawa State Council, on Thursday, September 29 in Lafia.

The “Awards for Excellence in National Development" were awarded to Governors Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa, Gabriel Ortom of Benue, Yahaya Bello of Kogi and Solomon Lalong of Plateau.

In his opening remark, Vice-President of NUJ (Zone D), Wilson Bako, described the gathering as “an opportunity for journalists, often described as critics and watchdogs of the society, to highlight the good efforts made by Nigerian leaders’’.

He also congratulated the people and government of Nasarawa on its 20th anniversary, pledging to do everything possible to ensure the utmost professionalism among the journalists in the state.

“This is NUJ little way of contributing to the successes and development of Nasarawa state.

“It is also an opportunity to let the world know that we do not ignore our leaders who go the extra mile to improve the wellbeing of Nigerians,’’ Bako said.

Chairman of the NUJ state council, Mr Dan Yakubu, revealed that the awardees were carefully and competitively selected.

He also thanked the chosen ones for exhibiting exemplary democratic leadership which has played a role in the transformation of their respective state on a large scale.

“As members of the press, we have watched distinguished personalities who have contributed in building peace between and beyond our frontiers.

“The awardees today have shown exemplary leadership qualities and a high sense of patriotism,’’ he said.

Gov. Lalong, represented by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Dan Manjang, and speaking on behalf of the recipients, expressed gratitude to NUJ for the awards.

Other recipients of the awards were Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, Sen. Suleiman Adokwe and the Emir of Lafia, Dr Isa Mustapha.
