For robbing a supermarket manager of the sum of N5 million while armed with a metal rod, two young men have been sentenced to death by hanging.
Two young men, Charles Friday, 20, and Chidiebere Abi, 21, have been sentenced to death by hanging by an Ikeja High Court sitting in Lagos, for allegedly robbing a supermarket manager, Kingsley Obasi, of N5 million, while using a metal rod.

Though the Ebonyi State indigenes vehemently denied the charges leveled against them, the presiding judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Ipaye, found them guilty and said that the prosecution had proven the allegation of conspiracy and armed robbery beyond reasonable doubt.
Justice Ipaye held that the testimony of the first prosecution witness, Steve Okafor, an employee of the supermarket and the statements of both defendants, the recovered sum, as well as and the visibility of the injury sustained by the victim, were uncontroverted.
“The defendants are to be hung by the neck until they are dead and may the Lord Almighty have mercy upon your souls,” Justice Ipaye ruled.
During the trial, the prosecution had told the court that the convicts committed the offense on September 9, 2011, at Elobus Supermarket, Ago Palace Way, Okota, offenses which contravened Sections 295 (2)(a) and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

They were arrested by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, and about N399,000 was recovered from them.
The prosecutor said that Friday, an employee of Elobus Supermarket, had conspired with Ani, an apprentice spare parts seller at Alaba Market, Ojo, to steal money from the supermarket.
