A 44-year-old man has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates court for impersonating Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on Facebook.

One Eseosasere Gift Osifo has been arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate’s’ Court, on Thursday, September 22, on allegations of  impersonation and fraud.

The 44-year-old man was accused of creating a Facebook profile with the details of the Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, to defraud unsuspecting victims.

Principal Legal Officer, Department of State Services, Mr Onoche Ekwom, who was the prosecutor, told the court that the accused committed the offences between January and August 2016 before his arrest.

Ekwon revealed that the accused had extorted money from several unsuspecting victims before falling into a trap with the last victim, which eventually led to his arrest.

The offences contravened Sections 484 and 422 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2002.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the two-count of impersonation and fraud.

The Magistrate, Mrs Sodamade Fatimoh, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in the like sum, who must reside within the court's jurisdiction with evidence of tax payment, as well as two passports attached to an affidavit of means.

Fatimoh added that one of the sureties must be a civil servant on Grade level 12 and the other, a close relation of the accused. She later adjourned the case to November 21 for hearing.
