Young people in Maiduguri, Borno are trooping back to the dance floors as the Nigerian Army pushes Boko Haram back.
In the North-Eastern city of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, young people are grooving in night clubs and bars as they try to start life afresh after a harrowing seven years.
Borno is the state where Boko Haram sprung up and waged war on Nigeria, killing 20,000 people and displacing more than 2 million people.
With recent victories by the Nigerian army which have led to the retreat of Boko Haram, normal life is slowly returning to Maiduguri. In an article written by Eromo Egbejule for The Guardian, he highlights how the youth in Maiduguri are now clubbing as life returns to the capital city.
"Sunday Yuguda, 32, known as DJ X-Mix, has been playing in Maiduguri for a decade. He made his name at the city’s Lake Chad Club, where he played hip-hop, Fela Kuti and a fusion of several dancehall-influenced styles now called Afrobeats" writes Egbejule.
DJ X-Mix says that Boko Haram affected the nightlife in Maiduguri but lately people have been trooping back for a nice time. Sahara Nightclub and Hot Bites are some of the hot spots where young Nigerians in Borno go to and dance the latest tunes from Nigerian pop stars such as Mr Eazi and Tekno.

The club goers go early to the clubs to beat the curfew and some do not leave until till sunrise when the checkpoints are open. Maiduguri is a conservative city so many young women who go to clubs tell their parents they are going for sleepovers. When they get inside the club they change their outfits.
One of the girls named Falmata, 24, said in the article "You have to be high before you go and club" which reveals the drug culture in the city called the "the frontier of [African] jihad" in many reports. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has confiscated 20 tonnes of drugs in Maiduguri over the last two years.
With Boko Haram on the run, things are coming back to normal in the city. The home team El Kanemi Warriors now play at home and the University of Maiduguri has started holding graduation ceremonies once again.
