A staff of the Works department of Esan North-East local government of Edo State has reportedly slumped and died during a protest over non-payment of their salary.
It was another tragic event when an employee of Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State, identified as Peter Ayewoh, slumped and died during a mass protest organised by the state branch of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), over unpaid salary arrears that has been owed for the past 18 months by the Adams Oshomhole led government.

It was gathered that Ayewoh, an employee of the Works department of the local government, had joined hundreds of his impoverished colleagues from the 18 local governments in the state in the mass protest that took place in Benin, the state capital, when he slumped and was confirmed dead in the hospital he was rushed to.

The protest was said to have paralysed commercial activities in major areas in Benin, as the aggrieved workers marched in their hundreds from Five Junction to Ring Road before making their way to Sapele Road.
