Do you think returning money paid into your account by mistake is stupidity?
"Dear Pulse,
My name is Damilola, a 28-year-old lady. I work in construction firm as the administrative secretary where my salary is barely enough to take me through the month, though I augment with a little buying and selling.
I am a Christian, though not the fire throwing born again type. I go to church every Sunday and participate in church activities, so that qualifies me as a child of God.
Last week, something happened that is testing my faith seriously and I have been at a cross roads, torn between sereval advises. I was woken up with a text massage at about 5am and when I checked, I saw that it was from my bank. When I opened the message, I realised that the sum of N5 million had been credited to my account.
I was so shocked because I did not know who the person who made the transfer was. In the morning, I went to my bank and using my ATM card, the money was still there and it now dawned on me that it was a mistake.
When I got home, I told my elder sister and she told me to go and make a report to the bank but her husband rejected the idea, saying since it was a mistake, no one will see me as a thief if I claim the money.
My boyfriend has been on my neck to transfer the money to his account if I am afraid of keeping it while my pastor has even volunteered to go with me to the bank to make the report.
With these conflicting ideas, I am really confused. If I keep the money, would that be stealing and if I return it, won't I be seen as being stupid?
Damilola."
