In what has been seen as ironic, the bodies of several students who died in a ghastly road accident were transported to their states in a plane.
The corpses of the seven students who died in a ghastly motor accident on their way back to Kano State from a National Quiz competition they had gone to represent the state in Lagos State, has been received by the state government at the Malam Aminu Kano Airport.

This act has led to condemnation for the government by many who feel the government should have provided air transport for the students instead of sending a plane to convey their dead bodies.
The names of the deceased students who died alongside their driver, Aminu Abdullahi, and a staff member of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc, the company that sponsors the quiz competition identified as Mr. Okafor, has also been released by the government.

In a statement signed by the statement by the Director General, Media and Communications to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Halilu Ibrahim Dantiye, the government is really saddened at the incident:
"Seven students from Kano lost their lives on Tuesday morning, along Ibadan–Lagos express way in a road accident, believed to have been caused by burst tyre.
The students, Ahmed Faisal, Kamal Muhammad and Abubakar Abdullahi, are from Kano Capital School while Umar Musa, Sani Musa, Ibrahim Sani and Yusuf Danladi, came from Unity College, Karaye, in the state.
Others who lost their lives in the accident are Aminu Abdullahi, the driver of their ill-fated bus and Mr. Okafor, a staff of FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria Plc. Three other students however, sustained various degrees of injury."
