The man who reportedly beat his wife to death and absconded has now become a person of Interest for the Homicide Division of the Lagos state Police Command.
Lekan Shonde reportedly beat his wife, Ronke Bewaji Shonde, to death at their apartment at 5, Tiemo Crescent, Ile-Epo Alhaji, Egbeda, where they live with their two children. The suspect immediately absconded after the incident.

According to reports on Vanguard Newspaper, sources say the couple had a fight on Friday morning, as neighbours could hear noise emanating from their flat.

No one however envisaged how the matter would turn out. A neighbour of the couple, speaking to Sunday Vanguard, said though they heard the noise coming from theor flat, they never thought it would end in anything close to death, until their nanny raised the alarm.
Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, Dolapo Badmus, who confirmed the alleged killing, said the incident was reported by one Mrs. Tiemo E.B at Idimu Division, saying one of her tenants appeared to have been killed.
The Police PRO said the suspect could not be traced since the incident occurred while his phones had been switched off. Even the door to the couple’s flat had to be forced open and the woman’s corpse found with blood stains on her head.
Efforts have now intensified to apprehend the culprit, Gbenga Shonde, especially as the matter has now gained so much attention and widespread coverage.
The Police have duly transferred the matter to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, for investigation.
The Police would appreciate any information as to the whereabouts of the husband of the deceased, who is a prime suspect in the matter.
