A frustrated man has committed suicide

A civil servant in Abia has killed himself over unpaid backlog of salaries.

The inability of the Abia State government to pay staff salaries for several months running has claimed the life of one its civil servants who decided to commit suicide by hanging due to the hardship he is going through.

According to Daily Sun, the man popularly called Dee Nwankwo, a 52-year-old a staff of the Ministry of Lands and Survey, hanged himself in his sitting room while his wife and three children had left for church service in the morning of Sunday, May 8.

Nwankwo's dangling body was said to have been discovered by his family members when they returned from church service in the afternoon.

It was gathered that the deceased's wife raised an alarm that attracted neighbours who expressed shock at the ugly development, with some saying that the deceased had taken an extreme decision of taking his own life.

The father of three was said to have left a suicide note, saying that he could no longer bear the pangs of unpaid salaries and the attendant shame of not being able to live up to his responsibilities as husband and father.

The deceased, an indigene of Ihie Ndume in Umuahia North Local Government Area of the state, was said to have been agonizing over the difficulties he had been facing to fend for his family, including his inability to buy the wrapper his wife requested for in celebration of the Mother’s Sunday.
