The troubled landlord

The landlord who tenants accused of duping them a huge sum of money has come out with his own side of the story.

Moses Kamanya, the Lagos based landlord whose tenants made posters and fliers accusing him of duping them of their hard earned money and refused to refund them after they packed out of his house, has come out to set the records straight, by saying he does not even know the tenants involved not to talk of owing them any money.

Kamanya who visited Pulse offices to state his own side of the story backed with his own facts, said the tenants who happened to be two ladies, are out to tarnish his image and rubbish his reputation which he has taken years to build.

Hear him:

"I can tell you categorically that I do not even know the ladies behind this malicious attempt at tarnishing my image and reputation. I am an international businessman and I have many properties around Lagos, so I don't even deal directly with my tenants.

The property in question was a hotel before I closed it down and gave a developer to renovate and rent it out to tenants. In fact, he was to handle every negotiations and all the works including providing the basic amenities for the tenants.

But what I did not know was that when he was taking in the tenants, he did not factor in the service and I only got to know that he could not meet their demands when the tenants started having issues with him.

What I did was to transfer the management and maintenance of the property to a firm of estate managers with a reputable pedigree. Before the new firm moved in, the ladies had been causing a lot of trouble, threatening to deal with me and rubbish my reputation if I do not refund their money."

"They sent me a very insulting text, giving me an ultimatum to pay them or they will take a step that I will not like. I replied them that they should the firm and they would work out their payment for them but they said I should liaise with the firm and collect their money for them. Is that not funny? I never collected money from them and yet they want me to pay them back.

What is difficult in contacting the firm and get any money they feel should be paid back to them? Why bring me into it? The firm are facility managers of the property and every tenant deals with them, so why do they want to get me involved?

Like I said, I have only seen these ladies only once and even at that, it was in the night, so I do not even know them very well.

I suspect they are being used by my political opponents because they know I cherish my reputation more than anything. Even the picture they used was taken in my village during a political rally, so I strongly suspect my opponents are at work.

But I am not moved because my conscience is very clear. The simple they need to do is to contact the managers of the property and their case will be sorted out easily," Kamanya concluded.
