In London: Nigerian professor reportedly breaks 187-yr-old record at University

Prof. Abiodun Alao delivered the inaugural lecture today, April 27, 2016, becoming the first black African scholar to do such since the school was established in 1829.

News reports have revealed that a Nigerian academic will be delivering a professorial inaugural lecture at King’s College, University of London which would make him the first black African scholar to do so in 187 years.

Prof. Abiodun Alao delivered the inaugural lecture today, April 27, 2016, becoming the first black African scholar to do such since the school was established in 1829.

Alao who is a professor of African Studies, had been conferred with the professorial title about two years ago alongside a Nigerian counterpart in the institution’s African Leadership Centre, Prof. Funmi Olonisakin.

The honour made them the first black Africans to attain such professorial cadre at the institution since its establishment 189 years ago.

The appointments have reportedly been confirmed in a letter by the institution’s President and Principal, Prof. Edward Byrne AC, justifying their elevations at the instance of their contributions to African peace and security.

The statement reveals that in the institution which has produced 12 nobel laureates among its professors, Alao had distinguished himself, while citing about 100 widely recognised 100 academic articles and Encyclopedia entries he has made during the course of his career.
