4 Ministerial Nominees Deemed Likely To Fail Senate Screening

No Comments

The Nigerian Senate has on Thursday announced 3 basic criteria each ministerial nominee must meet if they are to stand a chance in the screening process.
Based on the listed criteria, some of President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial nominees may not make it through the screening process.
The senate ruled on Thursday after deliberating on the procedures for the screening which will commence on Tuesday that every ministerial nominee must be endorsed by at least two senators from their state.
Barring any last-minute realignment of forces, some of the ministerial nominees may not scale through.
Four Nominees, have been deemed likely not make it through the screening process include;
1. Rotimi Amaechi – Rivers
2. Babatunde Fashola -Lagos
3. Amina Mohammed – Kaduna
4. Senator Udo Udoma – Akwa Ibom
According to TheCable, Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers state, has been openly antagonised by the three PDP senators from his state.
It is also believed that Babatunde Fashola, former governor of Lagos state, may be affected by the proviso, which is not new but had been used in the past to disqualify certain nominees.
Fashola is not thought to be a nominee of Bola Tinubu whom the three APC senators from Lagos state are loyal to.
Recall, Dino Melaye, spokesman of the senate, disclosed that the upper chamber would adopt constitutional provisions and conventions of the senate as modalities for screening the nominees.
