ABOUT THE WORLD AIDS DAY ‘STARS PLAY FOR LIFE’ NOVELTY MATCH ON DECEMBER 1, 3PM AT THE CAMPOS STADIUM LAGOS ISLAND

The World AIDS Day ‘Play for Life’ Novelty Match in partnership with Friends Africa Goodwill Ambassador, Mr. Emmanuel Hyacinth Babayaro (MON) forms part of Friends Africa activities to commemorate the 2012 World AIDS Day.

This initiative taps into the natural convening power of Football to create a viable platform for the delivery of health advocacy and AIDS awareness campaigns against the stigmatization of people living with HIV/AIDS and to further educate and empower youths with information to help prevent the spread of this deadly disease.

The novelty football match will be played between a team of selected football stars (Team Eagles) and a team of celebrities in the music and movie industry in Nigeria (Team Celebrities) with people living with HIV as match officials, coaches, supporters and special guests.
The match creates a platform for leading African companies and influential stakeholders in the African Continent to show their support in the fight against HIV/AIDS as well as amplify the voice of advocacy for this year’s global AIDS Day theme: ‘Getting to Zero’. Other highlights of the day include:
Voluntary Counselling and Testing Centre
A mobile voluntary counselling and testing (VCT) station will be setup for participants at the venue. This is aimed at providing an opportunity for people to receive counselling and be tested to know their HIV status free of charge

Distribution of IEC (Information Education and Communication) Materials
there will be distribution of IEC materials such as flyers, pamphlets, Brochures, Posters, Calendars, Male/Female condoms, T-Shirts and pens for sensitization towards the prevention of HIV/AIDS and other related STDs.

Celebrity Shots with People Living with HIV
As part of the strategy to address the stigmatisation of people living with HIV/AIDS; on match day, celebrities will pose for shots with people living with HIV. Our aim is to get these shots placed on TV stations, newspapers, and online media in order to send a strong message against the discrimination of people living with HIV/AIDS.

Sale of Crafts Developed by People Living with HIV
As a measure to boost the earnings of people living with HIV, a mini market will be setup where People living with HIV can display and market their crafts and goods.
